Hovey Players present AUDITIONS for
A very black comedy by Martin McDonagh
Directed by Michelle M. Aguillon
Sunday, January 22, 6 PM
Monday, January 23, 7:30 PM
“The Pillowman” centers on a writer, Katurian, who is under suspicion of torture and murder in an unnamed totalitarian state. His stories have led to the interrogation of himself and his mentally delayed brother, Michal, by Tupolski and Ariel, two detectives, since the murders described in Katurian’s stories are now being replicated in the town where they live.
“The Pillowman” is relentless in its storytelling, going beyond the story of the town’s murders. It questions the significance of art, and what an artist is willing to do to ensure their art outlives them.
Actors should be very familiar with the play, its disturbing themes and language.
Auditions are by appointment only: 8-10 actors will be scheduled in one and half hour slots. Be prepared to read multiple times, possibly reading multiple roles. There will be cold readings with audition sides provided at the appointment. Actors may arrive early to peruse the sides.
Rehearsals will take place 2-3 times per week (may include weekends), and will increase closer to opening night. Performances are March 17 to April 1, 2017 at Hovey Players, 9 Spring Street, Waltham.
