Directing For Hovey

Have a play you’re passionate about that you’ve always wanted to direct? Interested in directing for the Hovey Players? We produce four or five major productions per season featuring comedies, dramas, and musicals. Every year Hovey looks for directors to help us put together another quality season of theatrical entertainment… maybe you’d like to be one of them for next season?

To submit a play suggestion for next season, download our submission form, fill it out, giving us information about yourself and the play that you’d like to direct, and either email the form and an electronic copy of the script to direct@hoveyplayers.com (strongly preferred), or snail mail it and two copies of the play to:

Hovey Players, Play Selection
PO BOX 540101
Waltham MA, 02454-0101

All submissions are due by January 31.

Directors are welcome to submit more than once, if they have several pieces they are passionate about bringing to life.

This year, we will select four shows to run in September, November/December, March, and May. We strongly prefer shows with a small cast and small production crew – in the ballpark of 6 or fewer actors, with limited backstage help.

Our Board of Directors will go through all the submissions we receive. After the first round of reviews, we’ll invite selected directors to meet with us to talk about their vision for the production (usually in early March). The final season will be announced in April.

Before you submit your form, we suggest that you take a look at the past few seasons on our website, to give you an idea of the variety of works we do here, and also to help you avoid submitting something that we’ve done within the past few years.

We also recommend you see a production at Hovey so that you are aware of the technical limitations of our space. We have a small stage with no fly space and almost no wing space, and perform for a very small house. If you have specific questions about our capabilities, contact direct@hoveyplayers.com for assistance.

If you are not a director, but have a piece that is rarely staged that you feel would be a fit for Hovey, we welcome your suggestions as well!
