Mixing aspects of mystery, suspense, and melodrama into a genre all its own, Dangerous Corner became one of the most popular British plays of the 1930’s. It was Priestley’s first original play, written in a week as an exercise to prove he could work in dramatic terms. Priestley went on to write over 30 more stage works, but Dangerous Corner remains one of his most highly regarded and fun to watch. The symbol of a sleeping dog representing Truth sets the stage for an evening in which each person is compelled to divulge secrets, with no one spared the evening’s unexpected twists and turns. Is it better to let sleeping dogs lie?
