“Summer Shorts is …the best damn theater company doing what they do best…”
– Larry Stark, Theater Mirror

We never sold short pants, although we’ve had requests. Our Summer Shorts festival features new works by local authors. Plays are unpublished shorts between 1 and 20 pages long. Each summer we feature up to 20 new authors, 20 plays, 40-60 actors, and many new directors, all in two weekends. Until now, the Shorts was a unique event in local community theater. You will notice other companies duplicating our idea. Good, supporting new works is important. But, the creative energy at Hovey every summer is still unique. Our festival is presented with a passion and style that can only be described as Hovey. We can say with confidence that Hovey has the best shorts.

by J. B. Priestly

directed by Justin Budinoff

Mixing aspects of mystery, suspense, and melodrama into a genre all its own, Dangerous Corner became one of the most popular British plays of the 1930′s. It was Priestley’s first original play, written in a week as an exercise to prove he could work in dramatic terms. Priestley went on to write over 30 more stage works, but Dangerous Corner remains one of his most highly regarded and fun to watch. The symbol of a sleeping dog representing Truth sets the stage for an evening in which each person is compelled to divulge secrets, with no one spared the evening’s unexpected twists and turns. Is it better to let sleeping dogs lie?

Twelfth Night; Or, What You Will.

By William Shakespeare

Directed by John MacKenzie

Twelfth Night is about illusion, deception, disguises, madness and the extraordinary things that love
will cause us to do—and to see. Most critics consider it one of William Shakespeare’s greatest comedies, along with plays such as As You Like It, Much Ado About Nothing, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

20 – 29 March, 2003

To describe the plot in the most basic of terms it would be something like the following: Orsino loves Olivia. Olivia loves Orsino’s messenger, Cesario. Cesario is really Viola and SHE has the hots for Orsino. Malvolio is tricked into thinking Olivia loves him and so he falls madly in love with her, acts totally insane and ends up in prison. Maria loves Feste and Toby loves Maria, only he doesn’t really know that yet. In the end, Toby marries Maria, Orsino marries Viola and Olivia marries Sebastian (Viola’s twin brother) who Olivia mistakes for Cesario. Add to this: sword fights, hysterical comedy and music and you have Twelfth Night!

The production will feature the acting talents of Michelle Aguillon, Shannon Allen, Ann Carpenter, Michael Corbett, Christine Hamel, Eric Houghton, Laura Kozuh, Kate Mahoney, Jason Myatt, Geoffrey Pingree, Richard Rininsland, Gordon Ellis, Jason Katz and Russ Fletcher.

For ticket reservations…please call (781) 893-9171, or forward a check to: Hovey Players, PO Box 540101,
