Hovey Players is delighted to announce sign-ups for a new acting and scene study course, taught by award-winning actor, director, and teacher Demetra Tseckares!  To indicate your interest, please fill out this brief form, where you will also be asked to upload a simple theater resumé and headshot/picture. Space is limited, so we may not be able to accommodate everyone who expresses interest. We encourage you to apply by March 21st.

ABOUT THE COURSE:

What: The class will focus primarily on rehearsed scene study but will also include monologues and cold readings/audition preparation. Students will be expected to do some rehearsing outside of class to maximize the impact of the coaching done in session. Demetra’s teaching style is embodied by a strong, actor-focused technique designed to find deep theatrical truths and emotionally rich relationships, which bring scenes fully to life. Her work is strongly informed by Robert Cohen (author of Acting Power and Acting in Shakespeare) among many others, who taught and directed her at the MFA program at UC Irvine. Actors describe her approach as extremely positive and supportive, while also giving them a real “theatrical workout” where they are pushed to new levels of creativity and authenticity.

WHEN:  This pilot course will run for 6 sessions, held once per week, starting the week of April 13th-19th and running through the week of May 18th-24th. Class will either be held on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday evenings from 7-10pm, depending on participant availability (a question about availability is included in the interest form).

WHO:  The ideal student is one who wants to improve their technique and is excited to work with new people and ideas. Beginners and seasoned actors are welcome. Demetra is asking for resumés in advance to better understand students’ backgrounds and ensure that she is designing a rigorous course of study, regardless of experience level.

Cost: $150 total (includes all 6, 3-hour classes)
